Chelsea Set to Complete David Datro Fofana as First January Signing in £8.6m Transfer

Chelsea look set to complete their first January transfer by signing David Datro Fofana from Molde in an £8.6million move. The 19-year-old striker has scored 15 goals and provided a further five assists in 24 appearances so far this season.

As reported by Football London, Armando Broja suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during a friendly against Aston Villa, leaving Graham Potter’s attacking options significantly weakened. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kai Havertz have both struggled for form this season resulting in the Blues exploring possible striker options ahead of the January transfer window.

Fofana has one year left on his current deal with Molde but now looks set for a switch to Stamford Bridge. Personal terms are still being discussed between the player and Blues but a deal is expected to go through in the coming weeks, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Broja is set to miss the remainder of the season leaving Chelsea with just two striker options in Aubameyang and Havertz. Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Felix had emerged as possible options for the Blues in January but it seems they have opted for a relatively unknown quantity in Fofana.

Ronaldo is available as a free agent heading into the January transfer window, whilst Felix has been given permission to pursue an exit from Atletico Madrid after falling out of favour under Diego Simeone. Borussia Dortmund talent Youssoufa Moukoko had also been tipped to make the move to Stamford Bridge with his current deal set to expire at the end of this season.

At 19 years old, Fofana fits into Todd Boehly’s plans to sign talented youngsters that have the potential to become regular first team players in the future. The young striker has already been capped at international level for the Ivory Coast and his form this season for Molde has proved he has the talent and ability to develop into a top striker.
