Dani Alves Under Investigation in Brazil Days Before World Cup

Just a few days before the 2022 World Cup kicks off, news broke revealing that Brazil international Dani Alves is under investigation in his home country.

As reported by Marca, the former Barcelona right-back was called up by national team coach Tite to participate in a World Cup for the third time in his career.

However, according to ‘ge.globo.com’, Alves is being investigated by the Brazilian Federal Public Ministry (MPF) for receiving 6.2 million reais through an NGO that would not meet all the requirements. The same platform also revealed that former player Emerson Sheik is also under investigation since November 7.

“The suspicion is that the organizations (NGOs) were inactive and were taken over by the players to circumvent the legal requirements to receive public funds,” reads the Brazilian media.

Focusing on the sporting aspect, Alves, who is currently plying his trade at Mexican club Pumas, will travel to Qatar in the coming days.

“The criteria is the same as for the others: it combines individual technical quality, physical strength and mental aspect,” Tite said after announcing his squad.

“In my team, the full-backs don’t play as full-backs. They build from the back and the technical quality that Dani offers me is impressive”.
