Davido Says He’s Not Given Enough Credit for Shaping Nigerian Music
Award-winning Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, believes his contributions to the Nigerian music industry have not been fully recognised, despite his 15-year career at the top of the game.
In a recent interview with content creator Egungun of Lagos, Davido reflected on his journey and the recognition he feels is lacking. “I’ve been conquering the music industry for 15 years, but the crazy thing is that people don’t give me my flowers [credit] that I deserve,” he said.
When asked if he believed he had critics or detractors, the singer acknowledged that haters exist, but added, “When I go everywhere, they love me, so I’m like, where are the haters?”
Despite his sentiments, Davido remains one of Africa’s most decorated artists. He clinched the Artist of the Year award at the 17th Headies Awards and was also named Digital Artiste of the Year, reaffirming his enduring influence in the Afrobeats scene.
Davido’s remarks contribute to the broader conversation around recognition and legacy in Nigeria’s competitive music industry.
