Davido Says Meeting Chris Brown Marked Turning Point in His Career
Nigerian Afrobeats star Davido has opened up about the profound impact his friendship with American singer Chris Brown has had on his career.
Speaking on the Bagfuel Brigade podcast, the “Blow My Mind” crooner shared that his journey took a significant leap forward after he first connected with the R&B superstar in 2018.
“Meeting Chris Brown changed my life,” Davido said during the interview. “I met him in 2018 through one of his best friends, who’s Nigerian.”
The Afrobeats singer recalled receiving a surprise FaceTime call from Brown’s friend while his music played in the background. When he asked where the call was coming from, the friend revealed he was at Chris Brown’s house – with the Grammy-winning artist dancing to Davido’s track.
“That was the first time we spoke. A few months later, I went to America and we linked up in person,” Davido recounted. “From the moment we met, we just naturally became friends.”
Their bond soon translated into music, with their 2019 collaboration Blow My Mind becoming an international hit. Since then, the duo has maintained both a personal and professional relationship, often working together and showing mutual support on and offstage.
Davido’s connection with Brown is widely seen as a milestone that helped bridge the Afrobeats genre with mainstream American audiences, expanding his global reach in the process.
