Elon Musk Says Twitter Will Let Publishers Charge Per Article

Twitter CEO Elon Musk has recently announced that the social media platform will enable media publishers to charge users for individual articles with a single click, which he believes will benefit both the public and media organisations.

The feature, which will be rolled out this month, will enable users who do not “sign up for a monthly subscription to pay a higher per article price for when they want to read an occasional article,” said Musk in a tweet.

Prior to Musk’s announcement about the new feature, he revealed plans to generate revenue from content on its website by taking a 10 percent cut on content subscriptions after the initial year.

He had also said that the company will not take a cut for the first 12 months on content subscriptions.

After assuming control of the social media company in October, Musk wasted no time implementing several product and organisational modifications. These included introducing a paid Twitter-verified blue tick service and downsizing the workforce by approximately 80 percent.

Musk’s objective has been to enhance Twitter’s revenue generation following a decline in advertising income last year before he finally acquired the company after a series of negotiations.
