Eritrean Track Team Competing in World Athletics Championship Found After Reported Missing
The Four athletes and a coach on Eritrea’s visiting track and field team at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene who were earlier reported missing have now been found.
This was confirmed by the University of Oregon and reported by KOIN 6 News.
The team members had been staying temporarily in campus housing for the competition, which was the first held in the United States.
They were about a week ago and had been reported missing to university police by the Eritrean National Athletics Federation.
The University of Oregon Police Department confirmed the missing persons report on Thursday morning, but by Thursday afternoon, announced the members of the team had been found “and are not in danger.”
The Eritrean National Athletics Federation says “the athletes are resuming activities with the team,” according to a UOPD spokesperson.
