Fireboy DML Says He’s Never Been Heartbroken
Afrobeats sensation Fireboy DML has revealed that he has never experienced heartbreak – and he intends to keep it that way, citing the emotional toll as a potential risk to his career.
In a recent appearance on the 90s Baby Show, the singer, whose real name is Adedamola Adefolahan, said he once flirted with the idea of going through heartbreak for the sake of artistic growth. However, after some introspection and conversations with former partners, he quickly abandoned the idea.
“I wanted to experience heartbreak,” Fireboy admitted. “But not anymore. Not at this age – I think it would ruin me.”
The Peru crooner argued that many heartbreaks are avoidable and often a result of people ignoring red flags. “Ninety percent of the time, if you have your heart broken, you definitely had something to do with it. We break our own hearts,” he said.
Reflecting on his journey through love and music, Fireboy said he has become more cautious about emotional entanglements that could derail his focus. He also shared that insights from women he had dated helped him realise just how deep the emotional damage of heartbreak can go.
Since making his breakout with the 2019 album Laughter, Tears & Goosebumps, Fireboy has carved out a reputation for blending emotional depth with lyrical finesse – all without experiencing the one thing many artists see as a rite of passage: heartbreak.
