GWR: Nigerian Designer Liz Sanya Completes Attempt for World’s Largest Sandal
British-Nigerian shoe designer Liz Sanya has successfully completed her attempt to set a Guinness World Record (GWR) for crafting the world’s largest sandal.
The enormous pink clog measures 3.156 meters (10 feet 4.2 inches) in width and 8.147 meters (26 feet 8.8 inches) in length, surpassing the current record set by a group of artisans from Municipio De Sahauyo. Their sandal measured 7.45 meters (24 feet 5.31 inches) in length and 3.09 meters (10 feet 1.65 inches) in width.
Sanya began work on the project on January 2, 2025, following GWR’s confirmation, and completed it within 72 hours on January 4. The event took place at Pixel Park in Lekki, Lagos, and drew a crowd that included notable celebrities such as Pheelz, Mayorkun, Korty EO, and P.Prime.
Expressing her excitement and gratitude, Sanya reflected on the significance of her accomplishment and the support she received throughout the process.
“I’ll never be able to put into words what any of this means to me. None of this has been possible without the support and compassion of the people who believe in my vision,” she said.
She also shared why it was important to attempt the record in Nigeria, stating, “Ibadan is where I was born. Lagos is where I was inspired. It was only right to come back home and prove it. One world record to beat, within 72 hours.”
Sanya’s achievement highlights her creative talent and her deep connection to her Nigerian heritage. The Guinness World Records is expected to officially confirm her attempt in the coming days.
