Keke Palmer and Darius Jackson Welcome Baby Boy
Keke Palmer and Darius Jackson are officially parents.
The actor announced the birth of her first child, a baby boy named Leodis “Leo” Andrellton Jackson, on Instagram on Monday, sharing a slideshow of cute photos from her and her boyfriend’s first 48 hours with their newborn.
“Hey Son!!!! Only 48 hrs of being parents!” the new mom began her post, adding, “Born during Black History Month, with a name to match! LEODIS ANDRELLTON JACKSON, welcome to the world baby Leo.”
In one of the videos Palmer posted, she and Jackson can be seen singing along to “Someone” by El DeBarge in the car while their son is in the backseat, and she explained that, when they first started dating, her boyfriend would make her playlists all the time.
She wrote, “We became each other’s someone and made a someone, look at God!” She also shared some shots from their time in the hospital, as well as a few close-ups of the newborn’s face. “’I’m not hiding the world from my son, I’m hiding my son from the world.’ Hahaha,” she wrote, before adding, “I’m just playing, my baby face is on this slide…And this slide.”
Palmer first announced her pregnancy while hosting Saturday Night Live in December, explaining during her opening monologue, “There’s some rumors going around, people have been in my comments saying, ‘Keke’s having a baby, Keke’s pregnant,’ and I wanna set the record straight—I am!”
She then opened her long jacket to reveal her baby bump. And earlier this month, she explained to Vanity Fair that she decided to reveal her pregnancy that way because she didn’t know how else to do it. “I knew it was going to be a thing to try and hide it—people were already commenting on it. I didn’t really know how to address it. It just felt like it was never the right time, and having a child is so private. But I felt like I should probably let people know…It was so much fun to say it during my monologue. That’s something my kid can have forever,” Palmer said, adding she is “so happy for my child” to get such a “legendary” reveal.
The Nope star initially teased her son’s name on her podcast, Baby, This is Keke Palmer, at the beginning of February, telling fans, “We’re not saying the name, but the name for us—it gives American. It gives Black American storyline. We want it to just be like, we’re not going for anything too unique. It’s not about to be Stone and Sand. It’s just like a nice natural [name].” Even so, some people did still find the name to be pretty unique, cracking jokes on Twitter such as, “That name sound like it led a civil rights march.” But Palmer proved that she has a great sense of humor, responding to that quip, “It’s giving I marched with Martin [Luther King Jr.], purrrr.”
