Liverpool’s Diaz Out Until After World Cup With Knee Injury

Liverpool will be without Luis Diaz until after the World Cup due to a serious knee injury the Colombian international sustained against Arsenal on Sunday, according to The Athletic’s James Pearce.

A scan of Diaz’s knee reportedly revealed he’ll be sidelined for six-to-eight weeks.

However, surgery is currently not being considered, Pearce adds.

Diaz is expected to be out for 10 games and likely won’t be available until the Premier League returns to action after the World Cup. Liverpool’s first game back is on Dec. 26 at Aston Villa.

The 25-year-old attacker suffered the injury in the first half Sunday after a challenge from Thomas Partey. Diaz was removed from the contest and later seen leaving the Emirates Stadium on crutches.

His loss will create a significant void in Liverpool’s attack, as Diaz was one of the bright spots in Jurgen Klopp’s struggling team. He’s scored three goals and two assists in eight league appearances.

Additionally, there could be news on the injury front concerning Trent Alexander-Arnold, who Klopp said was dealing with a “bad” injury after hurting his ankle in the loss to Arsenal.
