Luton Town’s Tom Lockyer in Stable Condition After Cardiac Arrest in Premier League Match

Luton Town’s captain, Tom Lockyer, is in stable condition in the hospital following a cardiac arrest during their Premier League match against Bournemouth, resulting in the game’s abandonment. The incident occurred in the 65th minute with the score tied at 1-1.

In a tense moment on the pitch, Lockyer collapsed, prompting an immediate pause in play. Medical teams rushed to provide assistance, and both teams were directed to the dressing room. Lockyer received on-field treatment and was subsequently stretchered off, receiving applause from the crowd, with fans chanting his name at the Vitality Stadium.

Luton Town released a statement confirming the cardiac arrest and Lockyer’s responsive condition during the on-field treatment. The captain was swiftly transported to the hospital, where he is currently stable and undergoing further tests, with his family by his bedside.

The club expressed gratitude for the support and messages received, acknowledging the efforts of medical teams from both sides. This incident marks the second time Lockyer has faced a health scare on the pitch. Previously, he collapsed during Luton’s Championship play-off final win against Coventry in May, leading to heart surgery to address atrial fibrillation, a condition causing irregular and fast heart rates.

Referee Simon Hooper later confirmed that the match would not resume on Saturday, and players from both teams returned to the pitch to applaud the crowd. Lockyer’s latest health scare raises concerns about the 29-year-old defender’s future in football, as he had recently returned to action for Luton Town in their first top-flight season in 31 years.

The Premier League issued a statement expressing thoughts for Tom Lockyer and all players involved in the match. Additionally, the Wales national team posted on X (formerly Twitter), offering their thoughts for Tom Lockyer.
