Man City Agree Deal to Sign RB Leipzig Defender Gvardiol as Riyad Mahrez Nears Al-Ahli Transfer – Reports

Manchester City has reportedly reached an agreement to acquire RB Leipzig’s talented defender Josko Gvardiol, as per recent reports. The 21-year-old Croatian player, known for his versatility in both central defence and left-back positions, is set to be Pep Guardiola’s second signing this summer. The deal is said to be progressing smoothly, with Gvardiol undergoing his medical examination on Wednesday.

According to The Guardian, the promising defender has already reached an agreement with Manchester City on personal terms. However, the club might have to pay a significant amount, around €100 million (£86.7m), given Gvardiol’s existing contract that runs until 2027.

This acquisition would bolster Manchester City’s defensive lineup, especially with John Stones now being utilized in midfield. Gvardiol’s versatility and skills would provide valuable depth to the squad, especially considering the potential departure of Joao Cancelo, who spent the last season on loan at Bayern Munich.

In the aftermath of their successful Treble-winning campaign last season, Manchester City has been actively reinforcing their squad. The addition of Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea has already been confirmed. However, several players may also be leaving the club, including Ilkay Gundogan, who recently joined Barcelona on a free transfer.

Other players linked with potential moves away from Manchester City include playmaker Bernardo Silva, who continues to attract interest from other clubs, and Kyle Walker, who is reportedly a target for German champions Bayern Munich. Moreover, Riyad Mahrez is believed to be nearing a deal with Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli.

With these signings and potential departures, Manchester City is actively shaping its squad for the upcoming season as they aim to maintain their strong position in domestic and international competitions.
