Matt Damon Opens Up About Battling Depression While Filming New Movie

Renowned actor Matt Damon recently shared his personal struggle with depression during the filming of an undisclosed movie.

The “Oppenheimer” star spoke candidly about his experience in a conversation about the best advice he received from a significant other. Damon’s remarks were made on a recent episode of the popular film show “Jake’s Takes,” where he appeared alongside his neighbour and co-star, Emily Blunt.

Damon, 52, expressed his belief that actors occasionally find themselves in movies that do not align with their initial expectations.

While he refrained from mentioning the specific film, he shared his feelings of disappointment, stating, “Sometimes you find yourself in a movie that you know perhaps might not be what you had hoped it would be, and you’re still making it.” The actor admitted that midway through production, with several months still ahead, he sank into a state of depression, questioning his choices. He recalled his wife, Luciana Barroso, coming to his aid, reminding him that they were in it together.

The acclaimed actor, who shares three daughters with Barroso and has a stepdaughter, has previously emphasized the importance of maintaining a close-knit family. Damon and his wife have a rule never to stay apart for more than two weeks at a time. In his recent interview, he acknowledged that his wife played a significant role in helping him overcome moments of doubt.

Damon highlighted the essence of professionalism in the acting industry, emphasizing the need to give one’s all even in the face of anticipated disappointment. “What being a professional actor means is you go and you do the 15-hour day and give it absolutely everything, even in what you know is going to be, you know, a losing effort,” Damon explained. He expressed his gratitude towards his wife for providing him with the support and mindset required to navigate such challenging circumstances.

“Oppenheimer,” directed by Christopher Nolan, is set to hit theatres on July 21. Coincidentally, it shares the release date with the highly anticipated “Barbie” movie. Damon’s portrayal in “Oppenheimer” has already garnered considerable attention and is expected to showcase his exceptional acting prowess.
