Microsoft Considers Launching Indiana Jones Game on PS5 as Part of New Multi-Platform Strategy

Microsoft is reportedly contemplating bringing Bethesda’s highly anticipated Indiana Jones and the Great Circle game to Sony’s PlayStation 5 console. Initially revealed during Microsoft’s Xbox Developer Direct event for Xbox and PC, the Indiana Jones game is now being considered for a multi-platform release, marking a shift in Microsoft’s approach to exclusivity.

A source familiar with Microsoft’s plans informed The Verge that the company is embracing a new strategy for certain Xbox games, exploring options for titles to appear on platforms beyond Xbox. While Indiana Jones is set to debut as an Xbox console exclusive, sources suggest that this exclusivity period will be relatively short. Bethesda is tentatively targeting a December 2024 launch for the Xbox and PC versions, with a potential release for PS5 a few months later.

Microsoft’s evolving approach to cross-platform gaming is becoming more apparent, with considerations for games like Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush extending beyond the Xbox ecosystem. Rumors of Hi-Fi Rush expanding to non-Xbox platforms have surfaced, with an official announcement expected in the coming weeks. Additionally, there are reports that Microsoft is planning to bring Starfield to PS5, following the release of the game’s “Shattered Space” expansion for Xbox and PC.

The decision to bring Indiana Jones to PS5 follows revelations from the FTC v. Microsoft case last year, where it was disclosed that the game was initially planned for multiple consoles. The contract with Disney was later amended to make it an Xbox console exclusive after Microsoft acquired Bethesda.

While an Indiana Jones release on PS5 would be unexpected, it reflects Microsoft’s ongoing internal debate over making Xbox games available on rival consoles. As the gaming landscape continues to evolve, Microsoft seems to be embracing a more inclusive strategy, opening the door for Xbox titles to reach a broader audience across various platforms.
