Misa Hylton May Drop $5M Lawsuit Against Mary J. Blige If Vado’s Career Is Restored, Lawyer Says
Fashion icon and entrepreneur Misa Hylton may be willing to drop her $5 million lawsuit against Mary J. Blige – if the music legend takes steps to repair the damage allegedly done to the career of rapper Vado.
According to a new interview with AllHipHop, Hylton’s attorney Nicholas Ramcharitar said the legal action could be reconsidered if Blige honours prior commitments, including supporting Vado’s music and live appearances.
“This lawsuit wasn’t Plan A – it was Plan Z,” Ramcharitar said. “Ms. Hylton did everything she could to resolve this quietly. She called, she texted, she even reached out through legal channels. Months went by without any response.”
The suit, filed earlier this year, accuses Blige and her company, Beautiful Life Productions, of interfering with Vado’s management contract with Hylton. Vado signed a distribution deal with Blige’s label in October 2023, just months after entering a management agreement with Hylton that entitled her company to 20 percent of his earnings.
Hylton claims that Blige later began pressuring Vado to sever ties with her, allegedly threatening to sideline his album and bar him from live performances if he remained under her management. The lawsuit also alleges Blige went as far as using luxury perks – such as private yacht invitations and exclusive events – to persuade Vado to walk away from the deal.
Adding to the tension, Hylton believes the real motive behind the alleged interference was Blige’s head of security—described in the lawsuit as her boyfriend—who reportedly wanted to manage Vado himself.
Despite completing an album by mid-2024, Vado’s career has since stalled, with Hylton asserting that he has been left in a state of “economic servitude,” unable to generate income or repay recording advances.
Ramcharitar confirmed that if Blige were to honor her commitments—getting Vado back on tour and into the studio—there might be room for reconciliation. “That could move the needle,” he said, while noting that other factors like legal costs and emotional distress would still need to be addressed.
Hylton is currently seeking $5 million in damages and an injunction to prevent further alleged interference from Blige or her team. No official statement has been issued by Blige or Beautiful Life Productions.
