Grant, discussing his latest album, “SUNDAY DINNER,” revealed the profound impact of the star-studded tour, emphasizing how surreal it felt to share a platform with Lauryn Hill after watching her in Sister Act 2 two decades prior.
In a candid interview with HipHopDX, Grant disclosed that the movie played a crucial role in helping him cope with the untimely passing of his cousin during fifth grade. To distract himself from grief, he repeatedly watched the VHS tape of “Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit,” starring Lauryn Hill. The rapper expressed that his younger self could “never have imagined” that he would one day share a stage with the very artist who brought him comfort during a challenging time.
Recruited for the 2017 tour alongside Nas, Dave Chappelle, and Hannibal Buress, Grant described the experience as transformative. He highlighted how Lauryn Hill’s presence enhanced his performance, making it more strategic and meticulous. To his surprise, Lauryn Hill herself commended his stage show, expressing admiration and stating that he “killed it.”
Despite Lauryn Hill’s occasional punctuality issues at concerts, Grant defended her, sharing his positive experience during the tour, where she was consistently punctual. He emphasized that fans may not always understand the challenges artists face behind the scenes.
In the same interview, Grant also reminisced about encounters with other legends in the industry, notably André 3000. The OutKast legend, expressing admiration for Grant, left a lasting impact on the rapper during a studio meeting, where André 3000 declared Grant his favorite rapper.
