Nigerian Man Sets New World Record with 75-Hour Gaming Marathon
A 24-year-old Nigerian man, Oside Oluwole, known as “Khoded,” has set a new world record for the longest video game marathon playing a soccer game, clocking an impressive 75 hours of continuous gameplay. This feat shatters the previous record of 50 hours, set by Englishman David Whitefoot in 2022.
Oluwole, a biochemist currently working as a car dealer, embarked on this marathon not just for the title but also to raise funds for a local hospital in his hometown of Ijebu Ode. Unlike previous record holders who played FIFA or Pro Evolution Soccer, Oluwole chose the mobile game Dream League Soccer 2023, which he played on his iPhone connected to a TV screen. He played over 500 matches during his record attempt.

Following the Guinness World Records guidelines for marathon records, Oluwole accumulated five minutes of rest for each hour of gaming, which he used to eat, nap, or use the restroom. Reflecting on his experience, Oluwole said, “I really enjoyed myself playing for 75 hours straight with just some hours of rest. It wasn’t an easy task, but I must say it was all fun. It was such a great moment; the event was very interesting and I’m grateful to God that it was successful.”
Hon. Seun Adesanya, a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly, praised Oluwole’s achievement, stating, “The Guinness World Records title is a testament to Mr. Oluwole’s dedication, determination, and the countless hours of practice he invested in mastering the game. His achievement stands as an inspiration to all aspiring gamers and an embodiment of the unyielding spirit of determination that drives our nation.”

This new record is particularly notable as no one has previously surpassed the existing record by such a large margin. The record, initially set in 2010 with a time of 24 hours, has been broken seven times over the past 11 years, gradually increasing to 50 hours before Oluwole’s 75-hour marathon.
Oluwole drew inspiration from Chef Hilda Baci, whose record-breaking cook-a-thon captivated Nigeria last year. He now aims to set more world records through playing soccer video games, including on consoles such as FIFA and PES.
With this remarkable achievement, Oluwole has not only set a new benchmark in the gaming world but has also highlighted the potential for video gaming to support charitable causes.
