PlayStation Network Outage Sparks Global Frustration Among Gamers
PlayStation users worldwide have been left frustrated as a major PlayStation Network (PSN) outage has stretched into its second day, preventing gamers from accessing online services.
24 Hours Without PSN
The disruption, which began around 7 p.m. ET on Thursday, was first flagged by tracking site Down Detector, which reported a surge in complaints from users unable to log in. Despite acknowledging the issue, Sony has provided little detail on when services will be restored.
“We are aware some users might be currently experiencing issues with PSN,” PlayStation posted on X (formerly Twitter) early Friday, directing players to its official service status page, which confirms that “some services are experiencing issues.”
Impact on Popular Games
The outage has affected several online titles that rely on PSN, including Call of Duty and Fortnite. However, these games appear to be functioning normally on other platforms like Xbox, suggesting the problem is exclusive to PlayStation users.
Gamers Vent Frustration Online
Across social media, PlayStation fans have expressed their anger at the prolonged disruption.
“Woke up and PlayStation network still down. Weekend is ruined,” one user posted, alongside a video of someone shooting a TV screen in frustration.
Another criticized Sony’s lack of communication: “PlayStation is fumbling hard right now. 15 hours with no update? Millions of paying customers deserve better.”
Others took a more humorous approach. “PlayStation Network is down… time to finally get to know my wife of five years,” one person joked.
Brands even joined in, with Krispy Kreme offering free Original Glazed Donuts to affected gamers in the U.S., while GameStop’s official account cheekily tweeted: “Bet y’all want physical copies now.”
No Signs of a Cyber Attack
While Sony has dealt with major outages in the past – including the infamous 2011 PlayStation hack that exposed user data and shut down the network for 23 days – there is currently no evidence to suggest that this disruption is the result of a cyberattack.
For now, PlayStation gamers can only wait for further updates, hoping their weekend gaming plans won’t be completely derailed.
