Rapper Illbliss Discusses The Cavemen’s Flawed Igbo Language in Music

Nigerian rapper Tobechukwu Ejiofor, widely recognized as Illbliss, recently disclosed that he had pointed out issues with the Igbo language used by the musical duo, The Cavemen.

The Cavemen have gained acclaim for their performances in highlife music, showcasing lyrics in English, Pidgin, and Igbo languages. In a conversation on the latest episode of the Drink with Killz podcast, hosted by Ikechukwu Killz, Illbliss mentioned that he had observed flaws in The Cavemen’s use of the Igbo language in their music.

He said, “I was in the studio with The Cavemen last month, we were trying to make music. And I told them that, ‘Your Igbo is so flawed. You’re not even pronouncing the words right.

“But nobody is more Eastern, nobody carries the Southeast on their back like them. Those boys have some books… Whenever I go to their literary, I’m seeing ‘There Was A Country’ by Chinua Achebe, [Emeka] Ojukwu’s memoir. Bro, they are absolutely very entrenched in the language.”
