The Weeknd Donates $1 Million to L.A. Wildfire Relief Efforts

Amid the devastating wildfires sweeping through Los Angeles County, The Weeknd has pledged $1 million to support relief efforts. The fires, which erupted last week, have claimed at least 24 lives and destroyed thousands of homes, schools, and businesses.

The singer’s donation, facilitated through his XO Humanitarian Fund in partnership with World Food Program USA, will provide critical support to the LAFD Foundation, GoFundMe’s Wildfire Relief Fund, and the LA Regional Food Bank.

The Weeknd also announced the postponement of his album Hurry Up Tomorrow, originally slated for release on January 24, and the cancellation of his January 25 show at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. In an Instagram post, he expressed solidarity with those affected, writing, “Out of respect and concern for the people of Los Angeles County, the Rose Bowl show has been cancelled and the album date postponed to January 31, 2025. The city has always been a profound source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with everyone impacted during this time.”

Beyoncé and her BeyGOOD foundation have also stepped up, donating $2.5 million to the Los Angeles Fire Relief Fund. The funds are designated to assist families who have lost their homes and businesses in the Eaton Fire, with additional support for churches and community centers addressing immediate needs in the Altadena and Pasadena areas.

In a social media post, BeyGOOD shared, “Los Angeles, we stand with you. BeyGOOD is taking action with a donation of $2.5 million to support those affected by the wildfires.”

The disaster has hit close to home for Beyoncé’s family, as her mother, Tina Knowles, lost her Malibu home to the flames. Knowles described the loss on social media, calling it her “sanctuary” and expressing gratitude to firefighters for their bravery.

Efforts by The Weeknd, Beyoncé, and others highlight the widespread solidarity and support for those impacted by the tragic wildfires as the region continues to face significant challenges.
