The 21-year-old artist gained widespread recognition with her viral hit “Water,” which quickly transcended borders and became an international sensation.

Tyla’s breakthrough came when “Water” went viral on TikTok, sparking a trending dance challenge that captivated audiences worldwide. The song’s popularity continued to surge, ultimately securing a coveted spot in Spotify’s prestigious Top 40 global chart. In a groundbreaking achievement, Tyla has now become the first South African artist to amass an impressive 10 million monthly listeners on Spotify, as reported by African Folder.

“Water,” characterized by its fusion of afrobeats and amapiano elements, made its debut in July and rapidly garnered a massive following, inspiring over 570 thousand TikTok users to recreate its infectious dance moves. Tyla has coined her music style as “popiano,” a distinctive blend of pop music and amapiano that resonates with a diverse audience.

Tyla is signed under the Epic Records label, in collaboration with Fax Records, a prominent music entity based in both Johannesburg and New York. Co-managed by We Make Music and Africa Creative Agency, Fax Records boasts a roster of global music icons such as Fifth Harmony, Future, and French Montana.

The success of “Water” extends beyond streaming platforms. According to Charts Africa, the track has climbed to the second position on the Top 10 Billboard US Afrobeats songs chart, reaffirming its impact on the international music scene.

In addition to her chart-topping achievements, Tyla has recently unveiled the official music video for “Water,” further solidifying her position as a prominent South African music sensation poised for even greater success in the future.
