Victony Reveals How Near-Fatal Car Accident Shifted His Parents’ Stance on Music Career

Nigerian singer Anthony Ebuka Victor, professionally known as Victony, has opened up about how a life-altering car accident in 2021 transformed his parents’ view of his pursuit of music.

In a recent episode of the Behind The Prestige podcast, the “Soweto” crooner shared that his parents were initially hesitant about his musical aspirations, preferring he focus on school and build a career in engineering.

“They didn’t tell me to stop, but they weren’t 100% supportive either,” Victony said. “They wanted me to finish school and be an engineer.”

However, everything changed after a devastating car crash in April 2021, which claimed one life and left Victony and two others injured. The incident sparked an outpouring of support from fans across social media, many calling for prayers and expressing concern for the rising star.

According to Victony, that overwhelming reaction helped his parents recognise the depth of his impact and the seriousness of his career.

“When they saw how much people cared and the way social media lit up with prayers and concern, they realised music was more than just a hobby for me,” he said.

The singer, who is signed to Mainland Block Party under music executive Tobi Mohammed, rose to fame through collaborations such as the hit single Holy Father with Mayorkun. He has since undergone four surgeries related to the accident, and in 2023, described the experience as a “blessing in disguise.”

Now, with his parents’ full support behind him, Victony continues to grow as one of Nigeria’s standout voices in Afrobeats.
