Woli Arole Slams Campus Fellowship Leaders for Demanding Foodstuffs as ‘First Fruit’ Offerings

Comedian and online preacher Woli Arole has expressed strong disapproval of a growing trend in Nigerian universities where student fellowship leaders allegedly request food items from fellow students under the guise of “first fruit” offerings.

In a post shared on his Instagram page on Monday, Arole criticized the practice, describing it as exploitative and unnecessary.

“I heard they are already calling you ‘Papa and Mama’ in university because you’re a fellowship leader, and you are also telling students to bring their foodstuffs as FIRST FRUIT. What nonsense,” he wrote.

The entertainer, who has gained popularity for blending comedy with Christian teachings, condemned the glorification of fellowship leaders on campuses and questioned the spiritual basis for asking struggling students to part with their basic supplies.

His remarks have sparked conversations online, with many echoing his concerns over what they see as manipulation disguised as spiritual guidance.

The term “first fruit” is commonly used in religious circles to refer to the practice of offering the first yield of income or harvest to God. However, its interpretation and enforcement – particularly within student fellowships – has come under increased scrutiny in recent years.

Woli Arole’s comments add to a growing call for accountability in campus religious activities and a pushback against practices perceived as taking advantage of vulnerable students.
