Jada Pinkett Smith and 2pac

2Pac Proposed to Jada Pinkett Smith While He Was in Prison

Jada Pinkett Smith, the well-known actress, and wife of actor Will Smith, has revealed an intriguing detail about her relationship with the late rapper Tupac Shakur, commonly known as 2Pac. She shared this information during a recent interview on the All the Smoke podcast, conducted by former NBA stars Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson. Jada’s revelation is part of the promotion for her forthcoming memoir, “Worthy,” set to be released on October 17.

During the podcast, Jada Pinkett Smith discussed her past with 2Pac, disclosing that the rapper had proposed to her while he was incarcerated in 1995. This heartfelt revelation provided a glimpse into their unique bond and 2Pac’s desire for a strong foundation during a challenging period in his life.

Jada explained, “When I wrote about that in the book and when I had to talk about it, speak my words for the Audible version of the book, that was probably one of the more painful parts. Seeing him there, the condition that he was in and having to leave him there. He was in bad shape. And so, when he asked me to get married, he was at Rikers [Island].”

She continued, “I knew at that time that he needed somebody to do time with him, which I was gonna do anyway. He didn’t have to marry me to do that. I’m here. He needed a rock. Because of our friendship and everything we had been through together, he just wanted to feel that solidified foundation.”

Jada Pinkett Smith emphasized that 2Pac’s proposal was motivated by their deep friendship and a desire for support during his difficult circumstances. She believed that he would have married her while in prison but would have divorced her once he was released, owing to the emotional and psychological challenges he was facing.

The actress also shared that they had a significant falling out, which led to a year-long period of not speaking to each other. She highlighted the importance of not holding onto grudges and the pain of wasted time when 2Pac was ultimately shot.

Jada and 2Pac first crossed paths as teenagers while attending the Baltimore School for the Arts. Their friendship was profound, and Jada described 2Pac as magnetic and captivating. Although they were never romantically involved, their connection was intense.

Will Smith, Jada’s husband, has also opened up about the unique relationship between Jada and 2Pac in his own memoir, “Will,” published in 2021. In the book, he admitted to feeling jealousy over their close bond, particularly during the early stages of his relationship with Jada. Will acknowledged that their love for each other was legendary, and he desired to be viewed by Jada in a similar way.

He stated, “Though they were never intimate, their love for each other is legendary — they defined ‘ride or die.'” Will also admitted feeling “twisted kind of victory” when Jada spent more time with him than with Tupac, highlighting the complex emotions he experienced during that time.
