RMD Says It’s Unfair to Marry Only One Woman, Voices Support for Polygamy
Veteran Nigerian actor Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) has expressed his belief that monogamy may not be fair, especially given the number of women who desire him.
Speaking during a recent episode of Curiosity Made Me Ask with comedian Bae U Barbie, the Nollywood icon reflected on his views about relationships, revealing that he leans in support of polygamy.
“You are married to only one woman. Do you think that is fair? Do you have an idea of how many women want you?” the host asked.
RMD responded: “I don’t, but I think it is unfair to be married to just one woman. My father had five [wives].”
His comment drew laughter and surprise from the host, but the seasoned actor appeared sincere about his perspective, which was shaped in part by his family background.
RMD, 62, is currently married to media personality Jumobi Adegbesan, following the death of his first wife, popular TV host May Ellen ‘MEE’ Mofe-Damijo, in 1996.
While RMD has not indicated any plans to practice polygamy himself, his remarks have sparked conversation online about marital expectations and cultural norms surrounding relationships in Nigeria.
