Atletico Striker Correa and Family Robbed at Gunpoint
Atletico Madrid’s star striker, Angel Correa, and members of his family experienced a harrowing incident over the weekend as they fell victim to an armed robbery at their residence, as confirmed by Spanish police on Sunday.
According to a police spokesperson, the 28-year-old forward and his relatives were inside their home in the capital when four individuals, wearing hoods and armed with at least one gun, forcefully entered around 21:00 (2000 GMT) on Saturday.
Despite the terrifying intrusion, it was reported that nobody sustained injuries during the incident. The criminals, after brandishing a gun, proceeded to rob Correa of jewellery and cash before swiftly making their escape, as detailed by Cope radio.
Angel Correa, who also represents the Argentina national team and was part of the World Cup-winning squad in 2022, now joins a regrettable list of football players in Spain who have faced similar criminal incidents. Notable names include former Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema and Atletico’s Alvaro Morata.
The world of Spanish football has witnessed security concerns in the past, with a notable case in October 2019 when Spanish police, in collaboration with Europol, revealed the dismantling of a burglary ring targeting players from Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.
