Hansi Flick to Replace Xavi Hernández as Barcelona’s New Manager
In a swift move following the announcement of Xavi Hernández’s departure at the end of the season, Barcelona has reached a complete agreement with Hansi Flick to become the club’s next head coach. The news, reported by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, indicates that Flick will sign a two-year contract, rather than the initially rumoured one-year deal with an option for a second season.
Flick gained prominence in 2019 when he took over as Bayern Munich’s manager after the dismissal of Niko Kovač. He led Bayern to remarkable success, achieving a historic Sextuple in 2020, which included a memorable 8-2 victory over Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-finals.
However, Flick’s tenure as Germany’s national team coach was less successful. Under his leadership, Germany failed to progress past the group stage of the 2022 World Cup, leading to his dismissal after securing just 12 wins in 25 matches.
Despite this, Flick has shown a keen interest in the Barcelona position since Xavi announced his impending departure in January. Club president Joan Laporta sees Flick as the ideal candidate to rejuvenate the team following a disappointing season.
The official announcement of Flick’s appointment is expected to follow Barcelona’s final La Liga match of the season against Sevilla. The club and its fans are hopeful that Flick’s arrival will mark the beginning of a new and successful era.
