Italian Footballer Accused of Beating His Partner to Death

Footballer Giovanni Padovani has been identified as the main suspect in the murder of his ex-partner, Alessandra Matteuzzi, who had reported him for stalking back in August.

As reported by Marca, the 26-year-old player, who is plying his trade for Sancataldese in Italian football’s fourth tier, had requested permission from his club not to participate in their Coppa Italia game against Catania.

Meanwhile, the Bologna prosecutor, Giuseppe Amato, denied that there had been judicial negligence.

“We did what we could”, he told news agency Ansa.

What happened to Alessandra Matteuzzi?

Matteuzzi’s sister was on phone with the victim when Padovani allegedly ambushed at her building.

“She got out of her car and started shouting ‘No, Giovanni, no, I beg you, help,'” his sister told Italian TV.

“I was on the phone. I immediately called the Carabinieri who arrived immediately. I live 30 km away. In the end, he beat her to death.”

Padovani reportedly clubbed his ex-girlfriend to death with a hammer, as Matteuzzi succumbed to her head injuries on the way to hospital.

“She was very scared of him because he had become persistent and she didn’t want to let him in the house,” a neighbour told the local media.
