Jenna Ortega Opens Up About Self-Critique and Growth in Acting Journey

Jenna Ortega, known for her role in ‘Wednesday,’ revealed her struggle with watching herself on screen. The actress admitted that dwelling on specific aspects of her performance hindered her ability to progress and develop as an actor.

Speaking in an interview with Harper’s Bazaar magazine for the December/January issue after being honoured with the Breakthrough award at the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards 2023, Ortega explained that avoiding watching her own work allows her to move forward and enhance her acting skills.

Ortega shared her perspective on the challenges actors face, indicating that dwelling on takes she’s not satisfied with can lead to self-criticism.

Despite the critical self-reflection, she emphasized the importance of being sincere and vulnerable on camera and then letting go of those moments to grow professionally.

The 21-year-old is eager to take charge of her career trajectory and doesn’t shy away from making mistakes, as she believes that it’s crucial for learning and personal growth. She expressed her desire to be empowered to make choices in her career, even if that entails stumbling at times.

Acknowledging the anxieties that come with the industry, Ortega recognized that even the most successful individuals face uncertainties.

She finds solace in the understanding that everyone, regardless of their achievements, is navigating uncharted waters. This realization helps her find comfort in the shared experience of navigating the unknown, emphasizing that everyone faces the same natural apprehensions.
