Manchester City’s Title Bid Takes Hit After Brentford’s 98th-Minute Winner | Watch Highlights

Manchester City lost 2-1 at home to Brentford on Saturday, allowing Arsenal to pull five points clear in first place after the Gunners beat relegation-threatened Wolverhampton Wanderers later in the day.

As reported by The Score, Ivan Toney, who scored the opener, tapped in deep into injury time to give the Bees their first victory in Manchester since 1937.

Manchester City fielded a strong team for their final Premier League match before the hiatus for the 2022 World Cup, but Erling Haaland couldn’t muster a shot on target. Pep Guardiola’s side still became the first team with over 60 touches in the opposition box this season (with 62) and made 29 attempts on David Raya’s goal but only had Phil Foden’s explosive shot at the end of the first half to show for their efforts.

Toney responded to his snub for England’s squad traveling to Qatar with two goals. His header was a deserved reward for Brentford’s positive start to the match, and his 98th-minute tap-in prompted jubilant celebrations in front of the away fans. Late substitute Josh Dasilva teed up the dramatic winner after wriggling free of Manuel Akanji.

“They might be Man City, but they’re humans. Humans can lose games,” Toney told BT Sport post-match.
