Nicki Minaj Promises to ‘Share Stuff Nobody Would Expect’ on Upcoming Documentary

Nicki Minaj has provided an update on her highly anticipated documentary, assuring fans that it is on the horizon now that her latest album has been released. During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live aired on Thursday (December 14), the rapper from New York City confirmed that the film is still part of her plans and is likely to be unveiled before her tour kicks off in early March.

Addressing the status of the project, initially announced in 2020, Minaj shared, “The documentary is absolutely still coming. I’ll, of course, add some new stuff going on in it to reflect the aftermath of Pink Friday 2 and stuff like that, but it’s done.”

She went on to reveal, “I’m sharing stuff that probably nobody would expect me to share in the documentary. And yeah, it’s going to be a great experience for my fans.”

When asked by host Andy Cohen about the prolonged release timeline, the 41-year-old artist explained that she wanted to synchronize it with the release of her album. Minaj clarified, “What happened was, because my album was not done when I was going to originally put it out, I didn’t want the documentary to come out without the music.”

She added, “That would’ve made no sense to people. Because of that, that network, they had to go with something else and I couldn’t force a documentary out either.”

Minaj emphasized the importance of timing, stating, “I wouldn’t have wanted it to come out right now because then it would take time from them really being able to listen to music. And so now that they’ve digested the music, when the documentary comes, it’ll be a different level of emotional roller coaster, I think.”

In 2022, the “Barbie World” artist shared a trailer for the documentary on social media, featuring archival footage from the early stages of her rap career. Although initially mentioned as a series split into six parts, it remains uncertain if this format will be maintained. In a post, Minaj expressed that the documentary would be released sooner than expected, describing it as “intimate, delicate, electrifying, inspiring,” and emphasized the need for it to be handled with care due to the deeply personal nature of its content.
