Spider-Man 2’s Controversial Miles Suit Was Not Designed By Adidas

The divisive Evolved Suit worn by Miles Morales in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has been a focal point of discussion among fans, but recent revelations have clarified that the controversial design was primarily crafted by Insomniac rather than Adidas, debunking previous assumptions.

In the final stages of Spider-Man 2, Miles Morales undergoes a significant costume change with the introduction of the “Evolved Suit,” designed in-house by the Insomniac team. This suit marks Miles stepping out from Peter Parker’s shadow and assuming the role of the main Spider-Man in the Insomniac universe. However, the design faced criticism from players who found its glowing blue highlights, unused hood, and hair-exposing mask divergent from the traditional Spider-Man aesthetic.

Initially, backlash surfaced on social media, intensified by the revelation that the much-maligned Evolved Suit was created in collaboration with Adidas to promote the Spider-Man 2 shoe line. Spider-Man 2 senior art director Jacinda Chew clarified that most of the Evolved Suit was designed by Insomniac’s in-house art team. Chew explained that they collaborated with Marvel on the suit and shared the design with Adidas, requesting them to design a shoe to match. Adidas chose to incorporate the Ultra 4D shoe with its 3D-printed midsole, inspired by Spider-Man’s webbing and Miles’s combination of art and technology in crime-fighting adventures.

While some Reddit users remain unconvinced about the Evolved Suit’s aesthetics, calling it “ugly” regardless of the designer, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 enthusiasts have taken matters into their own hands.
