Odumodublvck Declares ‘Declan Rice’ the Most Impactful Nigerian Hip-Hop Song

Nigerian rapper Tochukwu Ojogwu, popularly known as Odumodublvck, has sparked fresh debate in the country’s music scene by declaring his breakout single Declan Rice as the most culturally significant Nigerian hip-hop song in history.

During a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM in Lagos, the outspoken artist addressed critics of his rap style, accusing them of being “intimidated” by his rapid success. He dismissed claims that he doesn’t fit into traditional definitions of a rapper, calling such criticism a “fallacy” and “ungrateful.”

“People say I’m not a rapper, but that’s just hate,” Odumodublvck said. “When upcoming artists try to sound like me and don’t get the same praise, they feel discouraged. But I’ve delivered A1 verses – in English, vernacular, patois – across multiple projects.”

He went on to argue that no other Nigerian hip-hop track has matched the global resonance of Declan Rice, especially pointing to its use by Premier League club Arsenal to unveil their then-record signing in July 2023.

“In the last 20 years, no Nigerian hip-hop track has had more impact globally than Declan Rice,” he asserted. “That track is Arsenal’s biggest digital asset ever on social media. Check the data.”

The rapper also referenced his verse on Cast as another example of his lyrical influence, challenging critics to cite any Nigerian rap line with greater cultural reach.

Odumodublvck’s comments have added fuel to ongoing conversations about the evolution of Nigerian hip-hop, the definition of rap, and the metrics for measuring cultural impact in an era where music, sports, and social media intersect.
