Ogun Government Condemns Portable’s Attack on State Officials
The Ogun State Government has strongly criticized the actions of controversial singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, after he allegedly obstructed and assaulted state officials carrying out their duties at his bar in Iyana Ilogbo, Ota.
According to reports, officials from the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA) were at the establishment when Portable and his associates allegedly attacked them. The affected officers – Ramon Lateef, Akinpelumi Oyero, and Abidemi Onabanjo – were reportedly performing their duties when the incident occurred.
Portable, who is currently on the run, is accused of unlawfully restricting, obstructing, and assaulting the town planners. Meanwhile, nine of his associates have been arrested and arraigned before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court. They face charges including assault, armed violence, obstruction, breach of public peace, and intent to kill. Bail was set at N5 million for each suspect.
Reacting to the incident, Governor Dapo Abiodun condemned Portable’s behaviour, describing him as a “serial dissident” and an “unrepentant rascal” who repeatedly defies government authorities.
A statement issued by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, reaffirmed the government’s stance against lawlessness.
“The manner in which Portable and his accomplices attacked OGPDPA officials is not only disgraceful but a clear violation of the Omoluabi values we hold dear,” the statement read. “The government will ensure that any individual who disregards the law faces the full consequences, regardless of their status or influence.”
The Abiodun administration has vowed to take legal action against Portable and others involved in the attack as part of its commitment to enforcing order and morality in the state.
