Police to Investigate Skit Maker, Cute Abiola for Portraying Force in Bad Light

The Nigeria Police Force has expressed strong disapproval of the alleged “derogatory portrayal” of the police uniform in comedy skits by a former Naval officer turned skit maker, Abdulgafar Abiola, popularly known as Cute Abiola.

According to a statement released by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, on Thursday, the police accused Cute Abiola of presenting the force in a negative light in two recent skits posted on his social media platforms on July 20 and 24, 2023.

Adejobi stated, “The skits in question show a highly disrespectful and derogatory portrayal of the police uniform, an action that is in direct violation of Section 251 of the Criminal Code and Section 133 of the Penal Code Law.”

The police spokesperson further mentioned that Cute Abiola will be subject to an investigation and possible prosecution for his alleged deliberate actions. The Nigerian Police Force had previously issued warnings to skit makers and filmmakers to refrain from tarnishing the image of the police uniform or any related items.

In light of the incident, Adejobi urged Nigerians to exercise their freedom of expression responsibly and avoid engaging in actions that could undermine public trust in the nation’s esteemed law enforcement institutions.

It’s worth noting that Cute Abiola, who resigned from the Nigerian Navy in November of the previous year to pursue a career in comedy, had credited his time in the Navy for instilling the discipline necessary for a successful life.
