Sony Leak Reveals Robust Steam Sales for Former PlayStation Exclusives Ported to PC

In the aftermath of a ransomware attack on Insomniac Games, a Redditor has uncovered internal documents shedding light on the success of Sony’s former PlayStation exclusives after they transitioned to the PC platform. The leak, consisting of over 32 internal documents from Insomniac Games, unveils insights ranging from concept art to financial reports.

One leaked presentation slide indicates the commendable performance of previously exclusive titles now available on PC. Notable examples include Horizon Zero Dawn, launched on PC in August 2020, three years after its PlayStation debut. As of February 2023, the game has achieved 3.3 million copies sold on Steam, showcasing substantial success considering its age and the platform shift. Days Gone, released in May 2021, and God of War, launched in January 2022, collectively sold 4.2 million units, underscoring the potential of PC ports for PlayStation exclusives.

The leaked documents also highlight the competitive performance of Spider-Man Remastered, nearly matching Days Gone’s sales in just six months despite the latter enjoying a 15-month head start. This achievement is noteworthy, especially given Spider-Man’s considerable success with approximately 33 million copies sold on PlayStation.

However, recent PC releases like Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, and Sackboy: A Big Adventure have not garnered the same success, with none surpassing half a million in sales and Sackboy lagging at 63,000 units moved. Factors such as the games’ relative popularity and market preferences for highly anticipated triple-A exclusives may contribute to these lower numbers.

Beyond sales figures, the leak offers additional glimpses into Insomniac’s upcoming projects, including a plot outline for the Wolverine game and extended roadmaps for releases through 2030. There are also hints of PC versions for Wolverine and Spider-Man 2, although evidence of the latter remains unverified.

While the leak provides intriguing insights, it is essential to note that the attack on Insomniac Games is not condoned, and spoilers have prompted Sony and Insomniac lawyers to issue takedown notices. The situation is evolving across multiple platforms, raising concerns about potential subreddit removals.
