Timaya Faces Allegations of Song Theft by Cultural Music Group

Popular Nigerian singer Timaya has been accused of song theft by a cultural music group known as United Boys Culture, who claim that his latest song ‘Dey Your Dey’ sampled their original composition without permission.

In a video message shared via their TikTok page, the leader of United Boys Culture, representing Etche, Rivers State, expressed dismay over Timaya’s alleged unauthorized use of their song. He emphasized that the group holds the rights to the song ‘Dey Your Dey,’ which has been trending since October last year. Additionally, he referenced a previous incident where Timaya purportedly remixed their song ‘As E Dey Sweet Us, E Dey Pain Dem’ without seeking permission.

Appealing directly to Timaya, the group leader urged the singer to desist from appropriating their intellectual properties without consent. He emphasized the need for artists to respect the rights of creators and seek permission before remixing or sampling their work.

As of now, Timaya has not responded to the allegations made by United Boys Culture. The accusation adds to the ongoing conversation surrounding intellectual property rights within Nigeria’s music industry.
