Apple’s AI-Powered Siri Upgrade Faces Possible Delay Over Software Issues

Apple’s planned artificial intelligence (AI) upgrade for Siri may face delays due to ongoing software issues, according to reports.

Bloomberg, citing sources familiar with the matter, reported on Friday that Apple engineers are struggling with software bugs, which could push back the release of some new Siri features originally scheduled for April. The rollout may now be postponed until May or later.

“Apple is still racing to finish the software,” one of the sources reportedly said.

The delay comes months after Apple previewed the enhanced Siri features in June 2024, raising expectations for a major AI-driven improvement to its virtual assistant.

Meanwhile, Apple’s AI initiatives have drawn scrutiny, particularly after the company agreed to a $95 million settlement in January over a lawsuit concerning privacy violations related to Siri’s data handling.

Despite concerns from U.S. lawmakers about AI partnerships with Chinese firms, Apple has also teamed up with Alibaba to integrate AI features into iPhones.

Alibaba Group chairman Joe Tsai confirmed the partnership, saying, “They talked to a number of companies in China. In the end, they chose to do business with us.”
