Injury Rules Out Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola For 4 Weeks

Manchester City is facing a fresh challenge as they cope with yet another setback, following the recent injury blow to Kevin De Bruyne.

In an announcement on the club’s official website on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, it was revealed that Manchester City’s esteemed first-team coach, Pep Guardiola, has undergone a surgical procedure for his back ailment.

The highly regarded leader of the Cityzens has been grappling with persistent and severe back discomfort in recent times. In response to the escalating issue, Guardiola urgently travelled to Barcelona to undergo back surgery conducted by the skilled hands of Dr. Mireia Illueca. The operation proved to be a success, and the City manager is now set to commence his recovery and rehabilitation process in Barcelona, where he will be surrounded by his family.

In Pep Guardiola’s absence, the responsibility of guiding the first team on the training ground and during matches will be shouldered by Juanma Lillo, the club’s assistant manager. Lillo will take charge on the touchline and oversee the team’s coaching activities.

The anticipated timeline for Pep Guardiola’s return is after the conclusion of the first international break of the 2023/24 season. Consequently, Guardiola’s absence will encompass Manchester City’s scheduled encounters with Sheffield United and Fulham. The team will miss his strategic insights during the match against Sheffield United as well as the home fixture against Fulham, slated for Sunday, August 27, and Saturday, September 2, 2023, respectively.
