Tiwa Savage Explains Why She Won’t Sign Artistes
Renowned Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has shared why she has chosen not to sign upcoming artistes, despite frequently being asked about it.
In an interview with Forbes Africa, the award-winning singer revealed that she does not believe she has the patience or ability to manage the behavior of rising stars. Instead, she expressed interest in establishing a music school to help aspiring musicians develop their craft before joining record labels.
“Everyone always asks, ‘When are you going to sign an artiste?’ But I don’t think I have the gift to sign artistes because they are stressful,” she said. “I could just wake up one day and see my artiste trending for the wrong reasons.”
The 45-year-old added that while she may not take on the responsibility of mentoring artistes under her label, she still wants to contribute to their growth.
“I have the gift to help, which is why I’m trying to have a music school, where artistes can go and later sign to a label that can actually help,” she stated.
Tiwa Savage, who has had an illustrious career spanning over a decade, continues to be a major force in Afrobeats, inspiring the next generation of artists with her success.
