Netflix App Absent from Apple’s Vision Pro Headset Launch, Users to Rely on Web Browser Access

In a recent report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, it has been revealed that Apple’s upcoming Vision Pro headset will not feature a dedicated Netflix app at its launch. Netflix reportedly has no plans to develop an app specifically tailored for Apple’s headset, and compatibility with the iPad app is not on the agenda either.

This decision sets Netflix apart from other streaming services that have pledged support for the Vision Pro, including Disney Plus, Max, Amazon Prime Video, and Paramount Plus, all of which will provide users with a dedicated app for an enhanced viewing experience. In contrast, Netflix users on the Vision Pro will have to resort to watching content through a web browser, potentially compromising the immersive nature of movies or TV shows. This approach may also restrict users from enjoying offline viewing and introduce limitations on resolution, given that the video quality on Netflix’s web app varies across different browsers.

While Netflix did eventually develop an app for Meta’s Quest headsets, users found it to be somewhat outdated.

Netflix spokesperson Kumiko Hidaka addressed the situation in a statement to The Verge, stating, “Our members will be able to enjoy Netflix on the web browser on the Vision Pro, similar to how our members can enjoy Netflix on Macs.” Apple, however, has not immediately responded to The Verge’s request for comment.

Notably, Netflix was not included in Apple’s recent announcement highlighting that the Vision Pro would launch with 3D movies and experiences from Disney Plus and Apple TV. This absence of Netflix from the $3,499 headset may impact its appeal to users seeking a comprehensive streaming platform for their favorite shows and movies.
